First, newly elected President Obama asks Huntsman to serve as ambassador to China. Huntsman, a moderate (conservative but not crazy) Republican does a great job, but then quits to run for the Republican nomination to oppose the president. This endeavor, of course, goes up in flames because Huntsman is unwilling to play to the tea partie crazies (a dance move Mitt finds easy).
Now, Obama may be reaching out to Huntsman to take over at the state department as Hillary Clinton is expected to step down for a well-deserved respite.
I think it is remarkable. I trust Obama's judgment on this.
Huntsman was a good governor here in Utah, even though he is very much a true conservative.
